The Band
The band does not currently have a regular bass player, and we are grateful to Mike, Peter and Steve who stand in on occasions when requested. Pictures and information will be added here once we have secured permission from them.
Regular band members are displayed in chronological order.
Richard has been playing with the band when he is available, and as another classically trained musician he is more than capable of providing the strong bass line that the rest of the band rely upon.
He is currently employed by the BBC National Orchestra of Wales, and whenever he has time off he likes nothing better than the busman's holiday of playing with the Liberty Street Jazz Band.
If Richard ever finds that his "other band" don't want him any more we would be more than happy to welcome him as a member of the Liberty Street Jazz Band.
Derek is our previous bass player who unfortunatley had to finish with the band for health reasons.
The band will always be grateful for Derek's input as a great string bass player and sousaphone skills.
We look forward to seeing Derek play on the odd occasion where he feels able, and miss him deeply.
Thank you for your many years service Derek.
We would like to remember a dear friend and colleague Howel Morgan.
He enjoyed many years as our bass player and we enjoyed having him as a member of our band.
Howel from Porthcawl has now passed away but his legacy lives on.
Bourke was a founding member of the band way back in 1993 and he stayed with the band for many years.
Bourke plays a "skinny bass" which is quite something to see if you have never seen one before and he can still be seen playing for the Morriston Big Band on their gigs.
We'd like to thank Bourke for his hand in developing the band into what it has become today.
